|The Iconic Craigs Hut is accessible from The Bunkhouse via 4wd|
The Victorian High Country is accessible from more than one just one side !Many people don't realise that you can access the Victorian High Country from Tolmie through the Mansfield State Forest. The Bunkhouse is positioned perfectly on the main entrance road making it a great place for day trips into the High Country.
Many of our guests are not experienced hard core 4wdrs and they appreciate being able to set up a base camp at the Bunkhouse in one of our remote bush campsites and go out on their day trip to Craigs Hut, Mount #3, Bluff Hut, Lake William Hovell, Top Hut, Tomahawk Hut, Pineapple Flat to name just a few. Then arrive back at their secure and safe campsite knowing that it will be as they left it. No worrying where tonights camp will be or having to set up a tent after a full days driving.
Many large groups come to The Bunkhouse on a Friday night set up and spend the weekend testing out their skills on the local tracks before they head onto more serious off road adventures. The more experienced 4wdrs in groups will make The Bunkhouse their meeting place on a Friday night and then the next morning head off on their longer overnight trips once everyone has arrived.
Horse trail riders bring their ponies and let them graze in our paddocks until they are ready to explore the documented trails around Tolmie, some members choose to stay back at camp or in the accommodation and just relax and enjoy the environment.
Bushwalkers love the area because it is so quiet, many of them are bird watchers and they enjoy the bird song that starts up at the end of the day before sunrise. A photographers paradise.
There is so much to do in the area and we can help you decide which direction to go as Tolmie is central to Mansfield, Mt Buller, Merrijig, Booroolite, Jamieson, Whitfield, Cheshunt, Milawa, Benalla and Tatong.
An area full of history, this year is the year for the 133rd Tolmie Sports. Being held on the 9th of February at the Tolmie Sports Ground. So many different events the whole family can get involved with. Human races, dog high jumps, horse races, whip cracking, competition wood chopping and my favourite the Devonshire Teas in the newly rebuilt Tea Rooms. A great country festival with a very friendly memorable atmosphere, something new for you and your family to experience.
Come and discover Tolmie, blink and you will miss it unless you stay.
